Walking through the hallways at school you have the opportunity to see all different kinds of diversity. People of all different races, genders, and religions surround you everyday. Being a part of the community and being a good citizen means including and accepting the people around you. And not treating them any differently than you would want to be treated yourself. Loretta Lynch’s speech, “Address Announcing Complaint Against North Carolina et al re Transgender Law” uses pathos and ethos to advocate for the transgender community to allow them to use the gendered bathroom they are comfortable in.
Lorretta Lynch wrote the “Complaint against North Carolina” speech during a very controversial event in the south eastern part of the Unitied States. In 2016, a law was passed that affected the transgender community. Lorretta lynch a U.S attorney general was asked by the Department of Justice to speak on there behalf along with Vanita Gupta. For example, when talking about equality for all Americans she says, “And it’s about the founding ideals that have led to this country, haltingly but inexorably, in the direction of fairness, inclusion, and equality for all americans.”(Lynch7). This is Pathos because she uses very strong wording. You also can see the picture she is trying to get others to see. This picture being the idea of our country needing to go in the direction of fairness, inclusivity, and equality.Lorretta Lynch uses pathos here to appeal to peoples emotions and make them connect with her statement.
