Regarding the organization, an increased investment in players can be seen as an investment in the youth of the country as well. A prevalent issue has been the developmental effects of repeated physical trauma on younger athletes who play the game. However, if the NFL were to invest in player safety, player finances, and research to make the game safer, it would improve their public image, create more interest among the youth who want to play football, and make their product more sustainable in the long run. Another method to improve the public image of the NFL would be reducing its centrality because the
In the autobiography The Push, Tommy Caldwell describes his journey as a rock climber and the risks he had to take to get to where he is now. Paul Roberts, in his article Risk, addresses why people take major risks and the addictive factors that are involved, even when they are faced with intense fear. In the Journal of Health Psychology article, Extreme Sports Are Good For Your Health, Eric Brymer and Robert Schweitzer hint on risk and discuss fear as an experience and the relationship that people have with it.
It wasn’t until President Theodore Roosevelt’s son got injured in the game that he enforced a football reform. Almond relays the message that Football is a prime example of American innovation at it’s best. He claims that overtime, Football transformed from a deadly sport that had no organization to “controlled violence.” Almond believes that this reform is beautiful in nature which I have to disagree with. Although broken arms, ribs and pulled ligaments can be painful, they can be effectively treated by doctors this day in age.

The first negative on (NIL) deals is that college athletes can get distracted and unfocused academically. College athletes already have a busy schedule with their sport, practices, and games. Adding endorsement deals and brand partnerships only adds to their schedule and it can take away time for them to study and complete assignments. This can result in poor academic performance, which can ultimately harm their future career prospects (Willis).

Phillips is angry about this due to the fact the these social issues are a sign of weakness in football. Last, but not least, supporting family members can cause a professional athlete to become broke. Family members of professional athletes feel like when the athlete goes pro, that the athlete should take care of them. Athletes that succumb to this end up losing a significant amount of their earnings. Luther Elliss, a player from the Detroit Lions, was over generous with his money by helping his family members pay for weddings and landscaping (“Why NFL Players Really Go Bankrupt”). Helping family members seem like the right thing to do, but professional athletes must be careful not to overdo
The Great Sports Myth paints sports in a light that has it transcend politics and cross political barriers when that is not even the case and they are in fact deeply connected and linked with politics and social issues. Coakley discusses the role sports organisations play in the fight against social and political issues. A prominent example of political and social issues being present is the Black Lives Matter movement in sports even as recently as 2021, where before every match played in the Premier League, all 22 players on the pitch, and coaching staff would kneel down on one knee as a showcase of their support for the black community. Although this caused some outrage with some players refusing to kneel, as a whole, it was seen as very positive. Another very well-known example of political and social issues being intertwined with sport is during the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
Some contracts are incentive laden, usually they are reserved for players with either a troubled past, or will be used as motivating factors. For example, if player “A” gets selected to the All-Star team he will get a $200,000 bonus. The true economic problem with professional sports contracts is not with the elite players that get payed hundreds of millions, it is with the average player that is in and out of their respective league within a few years. The
This downside is that professional athletes’ go broke faster than they are drafted into the leagues. Many professional players such as NBA and NFL players go broke due to career duration, overspending, family issues, and lack of financial knowledge. When trying to become a professional athlete, one must start playing sports as early as possible (Ferguson 34).Playing sports comes with many sacrifices. Athletes must commit time to practice and traveling. Moreover, they must spend money on equipment, clothing, and food (37).

Despite much controversy, these new studies

Professional sports leagues such as the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football League (NFL), and Major League Baseball (MLB) generate billions of dollars each year. If he gets injured or does not play were then his revenue will decrease. This shows that everything including the athletes can have a potential financial impact on the sports industry.
Throughout my high school career athletics have had a major impact on my experiences and have shaped me into the person I am today. High school sports have taught me some of the most important and valuable lessons in life. Sports have illustrated life in many ways by not only subjecting me to success and victory, but also by putting me through adversity and defeat. Some of the most valuable lessons athletics have brought to me can be summed up in one quote by the legendary Vince Lombardi. Lombardi said, “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.”
