According to Louise Bernikow’s “Cinderella: A Day at the Movies,” the ultimate goal for women is to marry someone that can boost your social and economic status. The ultimate goal is to marry the prince for advancement in social status and financial stability. The goal is to marry that person so then you can get out of poverty and get out of hard labor. To achieve their ultimate goal, women were expected to be pretty in any way possible. It goes as far as mutilating themselves’ to become pretty or beautiful. There were several people that wanted to marry Belle because of how wonderful she was. One of those people was a hunter named Gaston. Gaston was a mighty hunter that everybody in the town respected. He was seen as arrogant but everybody in the town still thought very highly of him. Many women wanted Gaston to marry them because he was the ultimate goal for most women in that town. Despite Gaston being very charming to every other woman, Belle rejected Gaston when Gaston wanted to marry Belle.
