Final Paper Draft Art has been used for generations to describe the struggles of the people. It has been used as a way for people to have a voice, a way to express their values and concerns. Economics play a part in the creation of art. A major community that was hit by the Great Depression would be the African American community. Almost immediately the billboard is shown as a prominent force in the image. The billboard is that of a white family that is happy and smiling driving to what seems to be good pastures. The billboard says, “There’s no way like the American way”, this was to display that this was the American dream. Under the billboard you see the men and women that represent the African American community. They look sad and disgruntled and are a direct contrast to the billboard which is almost ironic. These people are trying their best to get by but this is made even harder thanks to the recent flood. This ties together with economics because this community does not have the same chances as the people in the billboard. The people in lone are getting food rations and are left in this decrepit state. The billboard is there to give a false sense of security because these people cannot achieve that type of lifestyle. In the mural there is a constant rhythm of sadness that is portrayed in the people. It all goes back to the working conditions of the people, the lived thru poor conditions and most seem to be immigrants. They came to America to gain the American way of life, but as we have seen this is not the case. This group of people organized themselves to make a change and to pass that change on to the next generation. The “Occupy LA Mural”, is a mural that was created by a unknown artist during the Occupy Los Angeles movement. This piece was made to display the feelings people had toward the greed of Wall Street. The mural itself is that of an expressive piece, its purpose was to resonate with the people. One of the main pieces of this image is that the Federal Bank is an octopus that is holding everything in its clutches. It also shows that the rich are prioritized rather than everyone living equally. The monopoly man is also there that symbolizes that this is a game to the people running the Federal Reserve Bank. The foreclosed sign is to show the homes that are being lost by people and are giving back to the bank. This way the banks are taking money from
