In Aristophanes speech of love is designed to make us find our other half. As well as, the idea of two in one is stronger than being separated from one another. Emphasizing that humans are not meant to be alone and that it inspires courageous actions like self-sacrifice. Not to mention, the act of love is dependent on your other half and be willing to die for one another. Clearly, it never mentions much about one-sided love or love other than for another human being. In accordance to this, it mentions three sexes that exist which were male, female and male-female. For this reason, he implies the gods might feel challenged due to the idea of people being “two-in-one”. As well as, the gods not being content or feeling love for the people that were considered a competition in power and or abilities. In order to get a sense of what is love and how it should be defined, we must first understand human nature. However, pleasure is seen as a compensation or reward for being separated when humans miss their other half. In regards to this, humans are supposed to be born with love and may contradict the idea of cold-blooded people. In other words, people who don’t know how to feel that type of affection. Whereas knowledge is a one-way love in which you decide to care for it even though you’re not getting literal physical attention or affection. Love is of free will and the individual may give it unconsciously because they’re acting upon their instinct and feelings rather than logic and reasoning.
