Love at first sight is widely regarded as a fairy tale, but two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, prove this wrong. They face many obstacles in order to stay together. In the end, however, their love leads to their untimely death. In William Shakespeare’s play, “The Tragic Tale of Romeo and Juliet,” the two lover’s sheer incompetence and lack of maturity is the cause of their death for the following reasons: they were not open about their love, they crafted complex plans to hide their love, and they killed themselves due to ignorance. If the couple showed their love openly, the story would have had a drastically different outcome. Juliet was devastated, and she met with Friar Lawrence in his cell to craft a plan that allowed her to run away with Romeo to Mantua. The consisted of a fake death, a toxin that would make her appear dead for forty-two hours, and a messenger that would find Romeo and tell him to retrieve Juliet. After a series of unfortunate events, this plan ultimately backfired. Romeo was falsely told that Juliet had passed away. This made his extremely upset, and he decided to kill himself alongside Juliet. After this deed had been done, Juliet awoke to her love dead, and she stabbed herself with his dagger. However, had Romeo simply waited a few more minutes, he would have realized that Juliet was not, in fact, dead. A short wait could have prevented two very influential characters death.
