After gathering all necessary information about Lucia’s problem, the therapist informed Lucia that she is diagnosed with depression. The therapist wanted to ensure herself and Lucia as well that she understands what was she (therapist) talked about the diagnoses. The therapist explained Lucia that depression is not an illness or a weakness, but rather is an understandable response to life’s difficulties. The therapist set the problem of depression outside the client, in Lucia’s environment, rather than biological or cognitive factors.
