Lying has consumed a major part of today’s society. In fact, a 2002 University of Massachusetts study claimed that, “60% of adults can’t have a ten-minute conversation without lying at least once.” Everybody lies about different things depending on the situation. Some lie to protect others, and others lie to protect themselves. Other lies are told just to simply cause harm. Despite the really elaborate and deceptive lies that some people tell each other, it has been shown that there is no club or formal training that goes into lying. It is an art derived from emulating the behavior of people around them. With much debate on the topic of what lies are acceptable and which ones should be rejected, this is truly a deeper subject than anyone could have anticipated it to be. Sometimes teenagers lie about doing some very dangerous and illogical things that puts themselves at risk, “The best lie I ever told was when I had taken the car and didn’t get the chance to put it back before my mother knew it was gone, said 16-year-old Shontea. …She thought that was so thoughtful, she didn’t even holler about me driving without a license” (Ragsdell 8). Events like this should not be lied about due to the fact that it could have ended up a lot worst for this person. In other words, the lack of a proper driving license could have gotten this person in a lot of trouble with the law or at the very worst, cost the life of themselves or another person. Alternatively, she could have revealed what she was doing and be stopped from driving which would completely eliminate the possibility of risking herself in an unnecessary accident. The temptation to go through with the easy way out of lying may be desired, but should be refrained from doing for lies that hurt your future and
