There is betrayal among character in Macbeth, Hamlet, and As I Lay Dying. When Macbeth talks to the witches, he learns that he will become king in the future. Macbeth then starts to think about killing King Duncan (ShakeMac 1.3.65-88). Macbeth talks to Banquo about killing Duncan, and Banquo suggest letting Duncan die on his own. Lady Macbeth is excited that her husband will be king. Macbeth betrays Duncan by wanting to kill the Duncan to become the new king (ShakeMac 3.3.16-29). In Hamlet, Claudius tries to send Hamlet to England, to collect taxes. The real reason Claudius wants to send Hamlet to England, is because he killed Polonius. Claudius betrays Hamlet by planning to have him killed when he arrives in England (ShakeHam 4.3.41-58).
