William Shakespeare's 1606 tragedy play, "Macbeth,” details the downfall of a powerful soldier. Macbeth had been influenced by Lady Macbeth and the supernatural. Had it not been for the witches and Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would never have considered becoming king. From the beginning of the play, the witches are established as evil characters with enough power to predict and therefore influence what’s going to happen in the play. The witches predict that Macbeth will be ‘king hereafter’, which sparks Macbeth’s ambition. Macbeth here would start thinking of being king. That leads him to commit more murders, and cause his own destruction. The three witches clearly influenced Macbeth’s actions, meaning that they are to blame for the destruction he created. The witches take a role, which is when the witches cause Macbeth’s downfall. Because of this, the witches decided to make Macbeth think that he is secure, “security is mortals’ chiefest enemy.” The supernatural makes it seem to Macbeth that “(no one) of the women born can harm Macbeth”. The weird sisters are responsible for Macbeth's tragic downfall, because they increase his feeling of security, because they give the impression that nothing can kill him.
