MACHIAVELLI'S CRITICISM Machiavelli Attacking the Catholic Church Machiavelli wanted to show the world the real problem of Italy under the ruling of the churches since the fifteenth century. The fact is that the churches had given nothing but harm to Italy, and he mentions the corruption the church made and the reason why Italy is not an independent state. He believes that his claims are unquestionable when he attacks the churches. He says that the churches are seducing the people by giving them the ticket for the other life, in other words “Salvation”. For example, Rome was controlled by the churches however some other cities were totally contradicting which created an ideological conflict among them. Machiavelli had mentioned several examples for the role of the churches in destroying the country’s ruling system. He brings on the Longobards who had places of power in the fifteenth century, but the churches were a direct cause for their banishing.
