Macy had played volleyball almost all her life. In fact, it was her favorite sport. She started playing at the rec level when she was about 7 years old. Macy played for Carbon Valley Recreation Center in Firestone, Colorado. Her mom coached her rec team from the year she started to this day. Honestly It is tough having a parent as a coach. They tend to be the hardest on their own children, but that’s because they want to see them succeed and be the best they can be. After years of rec, at age 10, Macy decided it was time to move up a level. She wanted to play competitive. After doing some research, Macy and her mom found a club that seemed perfect for her age. It was Club X-Treme. The club wasn’t very expensive, about $600 dollars to be exact. It was also very close to home and a couple of her friends wanted to try it too. It was the results! Macy made the team! She actually ended up playing on Club X-Treme for 2 seasons. The first season was great. Her team even took first in one of their tournaments. The second season however was very different. Macy played up a level. Instead of going to 12's, Macy moved up to 13's. This season completely changed her view on volleyball. She learned that volleyball's about teamwork and chemistry. Her and her team had a bond like no other. Nothing was embarrassing, no one ever felt left out, and the laughter never stopped. They could really be themselves. This definitely payed off on the court. They worked as a team and always knew how to cheer each other up. Sadly, it wasn't all happiness and smiles. There were loads of conflicts with the coaches. They just weren't doing their job. Although the learning and improvement levels weren't very high, Macy still was satisfied. She made 8 new best friends that season and learned that volleyball isn't just about skill. It's about teamwork and
