Malala Yousafzai and Sherman Alexie are both representations of those who unfortunately do not experience the same and simple journey towards education as most of the world does. In their works, “He Named Me Malala” and “Superman and Me”, Malala and Alexie respectively share their unique experience with the aspect of education that is so common to us. Their journey is full of ups and down, pushes and pulls and successes and failures. It defines a significant part of who they were, are and have become later in life. Their journey while similar on the surface, also was very different when dug deeper.

The rift between his family and his education was based on part mostly by negative experiences he had with his family not caring about his achievements. In contrast, his education puts his teachers and mentors, not his parents, on an ungodly pedestal. “The Achievement of Desire” is primarily about Richard’s negative childhood experiences in which he rejected his cultural heritage and his family in favored of a more civilized and elitist viewpoint in the hopes of getting attention.
The level of respect shown between peers and also between the staff and students was unlike any educational setting I had previously been exposed to. Additionally, I attended two or three seminars daily that invited both staff and guest speakers to introduce new topics and ways of life. I was introduced to topics such as knot theory, programming, feminism, higher dimensions, the history of waste disposal, game theory, general relativity, and string theory. On March 16 I saw The Wedding Singer at Lawrenceville High School. Overall the Performing Arts Department did a good job with the resources they were given. The students were able to bring the characters of 70’s adults to the stage for most of the time and the costumes helped project those characters even more. Sadly the singing was only semi-decent and after intermission the amount of energy on stage went downhill fast and by the final celebratory number it was clear the majority of the actors were simply reciting lyrics and doing dance moves instead of enjoying what they were doing.
No matter how people learn lessons, they will stay with the person forever, and help them through life. In the short stories “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara and “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, there is lesson that a character will learn about life. Although, in “The Lesson”, the teaching was more profound and had a deeper meaning behind it, while “Girl” was a parent forcing instructions on a child in order for the child to learn how a woman is to live. This being said, the teaching is more profound in “The Lesson” than the one given in “Girl.” “Girl” is a short story that teaches that there are many lessons we learn throughout life from parents, or in this case, a single parent.
The documentary, “On the Way to School”, was filmed and released for public viewing in 2015. This documentary was filmed in four main locations: Kenya, Morocco, Argentina, and India. The person who produced the documentary was Pascal Plisson. Two groups that helped to film “On the Way to School” were UNESCO and the French NGO “Aide et Action”. The general purpose of the documentary were to inform the public the long, hardship-ridden journey that children in less wealthier countries must endure to receive an education.

The first day I went there was a student crying and Mr.Mikalov pulled him outside to talk to him in private because some kids don’t like talking about their feelings in front of everybody. While the students were doing their work I had a chance to walk around the classroom, I saw at least five rules in big letters in the back of the room, which reminded me off Hary Wong and his teachings off rules and procedures. After the bell rings and they go to math. The teacher starts the lesson by asking the class what they know about the subject and go from there. The teacher asks the students to turn and talk to the person next to them about what they learned or explain it to someone who doesn’t understand it.
