Greek mythology, part of one of the oldest religion, is composed of many gods and goddess that are honored in stories that tell what things are the way it is and reason why gods and mortals exist. There are many gods and goddess out in the mythology. The main gods are known as the major gods, for example Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Poseidon, Athena and Hades There are also minor gods like, Nike, Nyx, Nemesis, Iris, Hecate, and Morpheus (Goodreads.com). Even though there are both minor and major gods, without even one of the gods, Greek mythology would not for that well. I will be showing this by showing responsibilities of one of the minor goddess, Iris.
Iris is the goddess of the rainbow, and she is also the messenger of the major Olympian gods, more specifically a maiden and messenger for Hera. Along with being the goddess of the rainbow, she is also the goddess of the sea and the sky. The reason why she was also considered the goddess of the clouds and sky is because from the Greeks that were living in the coast would see the rainbow touching the sea and the sky, so they believed that Iris was responsible for nourishing the …show more content…

For Iris there are multiple symbol that can be used to identify her. One symbol that can be used is a pitcher filled with water from the River Styx (Greekmythology.com). According to Goddess-guide.com, another one of Iris important symbols is her golden wings. I can infer that the wings were used for speed, because Iris would need to send her messages urgently and the fastest way would be through air. A third symbol that is associated with Iris often is the rainbow, and from prior knowledge that I knew about her, some believe that the rainbow itself was used as her dress and was used to wrap and cover up her body.
