The theme of hate is a direct link between the books Malcolm X, by Alex Haley, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. All these stories continue through the narrative of hate and its forms. Furthermore, in these stories, hate is a catalyst for conflict. It is the driving factor for many rivalries and collisions between groups within these books. These feelings of hatred or envy cause a struggle to stay unified and without bias. You can see this in the book Malcolm X. ‘“Every time you see a white man, think about the devil you're seeing! Think of how it was on your slave foreparents’ bloody, sweaty backs that he built this empire that’s the richest of all nations-where his evil and his greed cause him to be hated around the world!”’ (Haley, 217) In this quote, Malcolm communicates how the hatred of black people was constructed from greed. He is saying that this hatred causes the separation of groups. Hatred and jealousy are the causes of conflict between people and corrode the relationship.
