Starling (2011) explains, the crucial point of a leadership style is decided by a mangers effectiveness on whether it is used in an appropriate manner for their situation (p.345). Furthermore, Starling (2011) specifically points out, mangers must assess the culture or climate of their organization to know the leadership style needed to be put into place (p.345). Starling (2011) continues to note, there are four basic leadership styles presented in the workplace in which the leader uses in order to achieve goals (p.345). Beginning with supporting or human relations style, this manger has little task orientation and excels in relationship orientation (Starling, 2011, p.345). Moreover, they inhibit a strong leadership style but also strong employee relationships. The third style brings not much successful management or success in obtaining goals. Delegating or laissez-faire style takes a completely hands off approach, resulting in both below average leadership performance on task and relationship orientation (Starling, 2011, p.345). Likewise, this particular style of leader lacks the ability to manage properly, along with failure to create relationships among employees.
