The Manhattan project is one of the most interesting stories you will ever hear about. It is a research about when the United states and the United Kingdom came together and made the first atomic bomb in world war II. In response to the threat of America’s enemies acquiring the atomic bomb, the Manhattan Project was created to develop an atomic bomb for the United States and its allies. “The Manhattan Project is a research and development undertaking during WWII that discovered the first nuclear weapons.” (Gonzales 5). “Franklin Delano Roosevelt ordered the army bomb in 1942” (Gonzales 7). The Manhattan project was a code name for American-led effort. So that people wouldn’t find out about the bombs or who was all behind it. The people who were mainly behind this project was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, General Leslie and Harry Truman. Yes, some of our soldiers on our side had been killed, but the ones that were not killed had fought a strong war and were able to get Japan to surrender from WWI. The people that had discovered uranium was Otto Hahn and Lise Meitner. “The immense amount of energy released in the process opened up the possibility that uranium could be used as an explosive of unprecedented destructive power.” (Manhattan Project). A lot of areas around Los Alamos were used for building the atomic bomb. Scientists all around the world were always busy and trying to help as much as they can so they could get the Japanese to surrender. It was a bloody and hard war for both of them. People in Los Alamos did very good with keep the Manhattan Project a secret and not telling anyone. Also, the had a place in New York they were building some of the atomic bomb
