In San Diego, North Count, gang activity has Rudy Espudo, the leader of a Mexican Mafia group, pleaded guilty to his organized crimes involving the mafia. He is known for drug trafficking, violence, and extortion. Espudo has been involved in the Mexican Mafia by encouraging other gangs to pay “taxes” to the main Mexican Group, “La Eme”. Paying taxes the smaller groups in order to get supplies such as illegal substances to sell. Espudo played a leading role in his gang that was under the protection of the Mexican Mafia.

The police were very often seen as violent, brutal, and corrupted. The author takes it a step further to not only say that this relationship is only caused because the men are gangsters, but that they are also Mexican. There are many occasions when Rodriguez relays an account where the police call the men very racist names and act upon their beliefs in a very brutal manner. He continues this theme of social inequality as he talks about his experiences in school and his parents ' experiences in their jobs. In the United States, every year there are around 2,000 gang-related homicides and in the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, it explores the issues of gang violence, and teenagers in gangs. Around 40% of all members in gangs are teenagers, who are getting involved in some dangerous things very early in life. In the novel The Outsiders, the “Greasers” which is a gang of all teenagers, fight other gangs and commit serious crimes such as murder. We as a society need to pinpoint why teenagers join gangs and stop them beforehand. We also need to help people get out of gangs if they are already in one.

More people are going to jail, this implies that people are taken to prison everyday for many facilities and many go for no reason. People go to jail and get treated the worst way as possible.
