Margot's Seasonal Affective Disorder

When the environment a person is in does not change for long periods of time the person in the environment can be affected negatively. Margot was a very reclusive young girl when she got to Venus, she did not interact with the other children on the planet. Margot often ignored the other children around her. Also, over time she once had a breakdown when the water in the showers touched her. Over the years Margot lost all her coloring, becoming a frail and pale young girl. Similar things happen to people during certain seasons called, Seasonal affective disorder. People with this disorder often face lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, become withdrawn, develop insomnia, and acquire anxiety. She became a dreary form of a girl. Over the years Margot became a ghost of her former self, paling over time, loosing her color. And once, a month ago, she had refused to shower in the school shower rooms, had clutched her hands to her ears and over her head, screaming the water mustn’t touch her hands (Bradbury 2).
Margot has been surround by water so long that the mere thought of the water touching her freaked her out. After being surrounded by water for so long, she has become afraid of it. With the water being the only constant in her life, she has become afraid of it. There was talk that her father and mother were taking her back to Earth next year; it seemed vital to her that they do so, though it would mean the loss of thousands of dollars to her family (Bradbury 2).
For Margot’s sanity and health her parents considered the thought of traveling back to Earth; even though it would result a mass loss of money. Margot’s parents grew weary of what the water was doing to their daughter. Many times in the real world people become depressed from the constants of seasons. Many people in the winter get “ Winter blues”, a feeling of being depressed from the constant cold and the white appearance the landscape takes on. Margot faced negative changes from her environment, from the never ending rain fall. Margot lost her coloring, her relationship with her peers, and some of her sanity; all from the relentless rain that plagued the planet
