Many people have contemplated whether or not recreational marijuana should be legalized for tax purposes. I strongly believe it should not be legalized for many reasons. Marijuana is addictive for some people, with the risk increasing for those who start using it as a teen. It affects certain receptors in the brain, called cannabinoid receptors, which influence many functions, including the brain’s reward system. Tax money can be obtained in many other places throughout the state other than the legalization of recreational marijuana. One way we can raise tax revenue is the legislature work to bring more corporations and businesses to Mississippi. Taxing marijuana is not the only way to earn more money for the state.
