Imagine being the right hand man of the most powerful man in a vast empire with many loyal citizens. This was Marc Antony’s reality-- until Caesar was killed. In the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, the title character was brutally murdered by some of his closest friends. This event left Marc Antony, the closest person to Caesar, to find a way to get revenge on the conspiratorizing companions of Caesar. He could not kill all of the conspirators alone, for he was outnumbered, so he convinced a mourning crowd of Rome’s citizens to become a mob and avenge Caesar’s death.
“I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he thrice refuse: was this ambition?” This quote explains the thesis by showing that Antony used Caesar’s lack of ambition to indicate that Caesar wasn’t the ideal leader and, therefore, because of how quickly he was gaining power, he had to be stopped before his meager mindset
Mark Antony is trying to convince the romans and having them see how if Caesar were an ambitious man why “ had he brought captives home to rome,”(Ⅲ,ⅱ, 97) . This is significant because Mark Antony is showing that Caesar was not an ambitious man. This is making the country men see how Caesar was a man of good heart and could have possibly been better leader. This made many romans change their minds about Caesar. In Contrast to Brutus’s eulogy, Mark Antony’s use of rhetoric shows how he is twisting Brutus’s having romans see how can honorable men lie and having them all consider what he says.
Julius Caesar: Analysis of Tone in Funeral Speeches MLK, Jr. once said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends” (Goodreads). In the play Julius Caesar written by William Shakespeare, actions and words are used and spoken against a friend and a rival contributing to the assassination of their fellow friend Caesar. Two people that were very close to Caesar speak out against each other during their funeral speeches. Brutus, who is a “friend” and also a conspirator against Caesar, and Antony who is a very loyal friend to Caesar, use several rhetorical and literary devices as they create tone of proud assertive and defiant manipulation to get the Roman citizens on their side.
In Antony’s speech to the people, he speaks about Caesar over his dead body. His words make the commoners feel something, as opposed to Brutus,

This comes right after Mark Anthony’s speech of 3.2.167-195, which is where Julius Caesar's body was first shown to the people of Rome. Through this information, we can see that the Plebeians have been swayed by the words of Mark Anthony and the deceased body of there previous leader. Also, throughout lines 196 to lines 203, the Plebeians were chanting either pro-Anthony phrases or anti-conspirator phrases. This prompted Mark Anthony to make a second speech which starts at line 207 and ends at 227. In this speech, Anthony says “Let me not stir you up to such a sudden flood of mutiny”, even though his previous speech riled them up to a point where they want to revenge Caesar's death.
In William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, Marc Antony appears to be a strong advocate for Julius Caesar’s triumphs and increasing power. However, like Caesar, Antony is extremely manipulative and powerful. After Caesar’s death, Antony manipulated the conspirators into believing he was on their side before requesting to speak at Caesar’s funeral. While Brutus and the conspirators remained fooled by Antony’s innocence, Antony took the initiative to inform the Roman citizens of the conspirator’s horrendous actions towards their beloved leader, Julius Caesar. Caesar’s funeral was a time of reflection for the citizens of Rome, as Marc Antony caused them to question their allegiance to Brutus.
Analysis Of Julius Caesar Funeral Death Speeches Julius Caesar was like a god to his people because he was the leader in Rome, and he influenced numerous individuals. People were shocked when Caesar was murdered by Bursitis because they lost their hero. During Caesar’s funeral, as described in Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar , there are two speeches given by Brutus and Anthony. Some of the rhetorical terms that are used in the death speeches are antithesis, metaphor, chiasmus, and alliteration which will be explained in the body of this essay.
Antony told the people about him trying to make Caesar king. He told the plebeians that he “thrice presented him a kingly crown,/ which he thrice refused” (3.2 105-106). This was saying that Caesar did not take the crown after three times and he maybe did not want to be king. Maybe Caesar really wanted what was best for Caesars funeral. Caesar could have not been ambitious and really had some good views for Rome future.
Antony then steps up to the plate to give his speech. “The noble Brutus hath told you Caesar was ambitious… He hath brought many captives home to Rome Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill: did this in Caesar seem ambitious? When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:... I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he thrice refuse: was this ambition?”
Marc Antony gives his speech at Caesar’s funeral to the citizens of Rome. The purpose of his speech is to prove to the citizens that Brutus is wrong and Caesar shouldn’t have been killed. The tone of his speech is very ironic. It also gets very dramatic as he talks about Caesar being killed.
I have been interested in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire ever since I heard about the excellent achievements in their nursing program. I kept seeing nurses with an Eau Claire degree and a plethora of knowledge and experience that comes with it. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire caught my attention then but all of the different features of the college held my interest steadfast throughout my high school years. Every since I was a child, I knew that I wanted to spend my life taking care of people and helping them. As I started searching through lists of colleges I made sure I started at the best and when I looked into nursing program and my CNA teacher suggested this school for its nursing degree.
