The Plebeians Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar has many main characters, but the impact of smaller characters and the power they had over the more important characters makes them quite important. The Plebeians are one of, if not the most important characters, and he is most definitely more important then some of the “main” characters. At 3.2.50, the Third Plebeian says “Let him be Caesar”. He meant to direct this towards Brutus, but Mark Anthony had just walked back into the pulpit and overheard what he had said. This would have influenced Mark Anthony to think that the Roman people want a new Caesar, which would have then influenced him to start the battle with Brutus, Cassius and the many others. This comes right after Mark Anthony’s speech of 3.2.167-195, which is where Julius Caesar's body was first shown to the people of Rome. Through this information, we can see that the Plebeians have been swayed by the words of Mark Anthony and the deceased body of there previous leader. Also, throughout lines 196 to lines 203, the Plebeians were chanting either pro-Anthony phrases or anti-conspirator phrases. This prompted Mark Anthony to make a second speech which starts at line 207 and ends at 227. In this speech, Anthony says “Let me not stir you up to such a sudden flood of mutiny”, even though his previous speech riled them up to a point where they want to revenge Caesar's death. Immediately after Mark Anthony’s second speech, all of the Plebeians say “We’ll Mutiny” at line 228, followed by the First Plebeian saying “We’ll burn the house of Brutus” on line 229. The Plebeians now believe that revenge is the best option, because of the events that took place, they would start the war against the Conspirators by first attempting to burn down Brutus’s
