I. Biographical Information
a. Mark Twain was born November 30, 1835 in Florida.
b. Samuel Langhorne Clemens as we know of as Mark Twain was the sixth born of John Marshall and Jane Lampton.
c. As a child Mark Twain spent most of his time indoors due to his poor health. At nine years old, he had been ridden of all his illnesses and was able to live a life of a young spirited child.
d. He attended Private school in Hannibal, Mississippi.
e. After his father’s death, at the age of 13, Mark had to leave school to become a printer’s apprentice.
f. At 17 he left the printing business to become a river pilot, where he later got his alias.
g. Mark Twain means “river pilot.”
h. In 1870, Twain married Olivia Langdon, and was father to four children. All but one died without having any children. The one that survived had one daughter and lived till 88 years old.

The works that brought Twain to become famous are “ The Celebrating Jumping Frog of Calavaras County,” “The Innocents Abroad,” and arguably his most famous work “Huckleberry Finn.”
j. Mark Twain died on April 21, 1910.

A. Literary Works
1. Huckleberry Finn: In this novel Mark Twain showed that even though the Civil War had ended and slavery had been abolished in the south, he wanted to show how “Jim Crowe Laws” still didn’t give blacks equality.
2. The Innocents Abroad: Is about Mark Twain’s travels to America. It is different from most of his novels because this one is meant to be humorous.
3. “Life on the Mississippi”: Was written on a cruise on the Mississippi with his friends. He used this cruise to help him gather most of the information, which he later used in “Huckleberry
