Mark Twain
Mark Twain had many life accomplishments in his life. He was successful in his personal life and professional life. He led a successful career as a writer. Mark twain incorporates his life experiences in creating his own fiction.
Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835, to John Marshall and Jane Lampton Clemens (Robinson XVII). He was raised in Hannibal Missouri with seven siblings (Bloom 15). At the age of Eleven in 1847, Mark Twain's father Marshall Clemens died (Robinson XVII). Mark Twain was taken out of school and went to work to provide money for his family. He worked as an intern at a newspaper company and learned many skills that helped him later in life (Mintz). In his free time, he was a riverboat pilot with his brother Henry. Together they had four children but three of them died prematurely (Bloom XIX). In 1904 his wife died and six years later on April 21, 1910, Mark Twain died in Connecticut (Robinson XVIII).
Mark Twain published over twenty-two pieces of work (Robinson XVII). In 1869, he published his first book The Innocents Abroad. Publishers gave him a hard time publishing his work. As a result of this, he established the Charles L. Webster publishing company to gain control over his books. In 1894 Mark Twain declared bankruptcy and moved to England to save money. In 1898 He finished paying off his debts and moved back to America in 1900 (Bloom 13).
Samuel Langhorne Clemens is Mark Twain's real name (Robinson XVII). In 1863, he used Mark Twain as a pen name for the first time (Bloom 11). He used the name Mark Twain as a tribute to the days he was a pilot on the river (Bloom 12). Mark Twain's early twenties were spent traveling the Mississippi river and he included that in his books Life on the Mississippi and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Bloom
