The book The Martian was a spectacular read and I wanted to tell you about how much I loved reading it. I really enjoyed how you used such expository writing to express each and every one of the character’s emotions and feelings.This really made the reader feel as if Mark Watney and all the other characters were real people and that the event was going on in the real world. The way you created the character Mark Watney, with his sarcastic and funny attitude, is really a mystery to me. He is such a lovable character because he is so witty and has a sarcasm that makes you want to laugh. I found that the most impressing part of the book was how you incorporated Mark Watney’s feelings, emotions, and thoughts by the use of a Log system. I thought, in my personal opinion, that this way of writing made the story much more interesting and fun to read because it felt like you were reading actual NASA reports. Another thing that I found to be quite striking was how you added factual things and scientific algorithms into the story. Things such as Mark finding Pathfinder and being able to communicate with NASA, and how he planted crops and created water. How did you …show more content…

I have not seen the movie myself so I won’t be able to compare it to the book, but I hope to see it soon so I can compare the two. When the movie was being made did you have any control over what was put into the movie? For example, did you have any control over what Hermes, the MAV, or even the rover looked like or was it all up to the director? I ask this because that is one of the reasons I am slightly apprehensive to see the movie because the images I have of Hermes, and the MAV, and the rover may be different from what they look like in the movie. Were you worried the movie might taint the reader’s imagination of what everything in the book looked like? Once the movie was finally completed, were you satisfied with the end
