According to tradition, Mark's Gospel came from a Christian writer by the name of Papias. Therefore, it was Papias who stated that Mark never heard or follower the Lord(Harris, 2014, pg.136) From that stance, he made two historical observation, in which Mark was not there nor was his preaching of Jesus activities in proper chronological order. With careful observation, Mark's Gospel convinces scholars of the New Testament did not have to come from Peter but a oral teaching of Jesus was found in the author's community. It was also suggested that Mark wrote shortly after Peter's martyrdom, which took place during Nero's attack on the Rome's Christian community.
