Summary: Martin Fackler states that people believe that it is a woman’s duty to have at least one baby boy. This becomes a problem when there is a limit to one child per family or two if the first baby is a girl. There are so many unwanted baby girls that get abandoned on the streets, that are aborted once the parents find out its’ gender and that are killed at birth. Officials make sure these rules are followed so people aren’t able to get away with have more than two or three kids. This limitation makes people want a baby boy more than they typically would. These parents abort, abandon or kill the baby girls until they have a baby boy. The baby boy carries on the family name and takes care of his parents when they are old.
