Standing 5 foot 7 at his full growth historians have often joked that Martin Luther King had a voice and ability to lead far too big for his body. Due to his part in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s Martin Luther King has established his name in permanent American history. He brought the injustices of segregation to the eyes of the federal government, and made way for the majority of Civil Rights legislation of the time. Even in the primetime of anti minority sentimentalism, Martin Luther King Jr. was a hero and made major strides in the fight for African American equality in America.
Born on January 15, 1929, in the segregated city of Atlanta, Martin Luther King Jr. was adored by his peers, by whom he was called Little Lord Jesus. Son to a revered Baptist minister, King was placed in the midst of a Civil Rights crisis that he would grow up to fight to his dying breath. Martin struggled to adhere to his Christian beliefs and at a young age learned to “hate every white person”. Although he did not plan on being a minister, he looked up to his father and the fight he put up against racism. King had matured slightly out of his hateful ways and began to study the work of Mohandas Gandhi, he decided nonviolence would be the most dangerous weapon in this battle for civil equality. Despite his desire for change, King was an intellectual and had no intention of becoming a reformer. By 1955, King had married Coretta Scott and became a pastor in Montgomery. His skills in oratory had earned him respect and when the Montgomery Bus Boycotts were organized the people chose him to be their
