To describe all of the qualities that made Martin Luther King Jr. the man that he was would be an impossible feat; for he is a man of many. However, there were key characteristics he possessed that gave him the tools to become one of history’s most remembered African American men. His confidence and assurance from God led him to becoming the leader of the civil rights movement in the mid 1900s. With never a moments rest, King had had a hectic, fast-paced life that led to him sacrificing a lot of his own time and goals. Without passion, there is nothing to keep you going. King used his passion from every aspect of his life to make a difference and become the face of African American people. His passion for the Christian religion, for African Americans, for equality, and for life itself made him the successful man he was. Passion was King’s fuel. In an interview with playboy, King said “‘I feel, though, that my cause is so right, so moral, that if I should lose my life, in some way it would aid the cause’”. In his Birmingham letter, King did not waver when he stated, “We will reach the goal of freedom in Birmingham and all over the nation, because the goal of America is freedom”. There was absolutely no doubt in his mind that the cause he was fighting for was just and right. When a person truly and completely believes in himself, he can do anything. King knew exactly this and led with this knowledge. What gave him this confidence was his devotion and belief in the Christian religion. Like his father and grandfather before him, King was a pastor and deeply religious man. He had absolute faith in God and the bible and knew that with the lord on his side that he could never fail.
