A prophet is a person who is regarded as an inspiring teacher who proclaims the work of the Lord. There are many prophets who live among us today and teach, spread, and influence the word of God. Martin Luther King Jr., who is an activist and a Baptist Minister is a prime example of a prophet living in today’s modern society; He was a strong and pretentious man who sought to change history; he incorporated the Works of Mercy in his teachings. Being a pastor, King spread his message through believing in God and incorporating Christianity into his speeches. For example, in “Paul’s Letter for American Christians,” he states, “I still believe that standing up for the truth of God is the greatest thing in the world. This is the end of life America. The end of life is not to achieve pleasure and avoid pain. The end of life is to do with the will of God, come what may.” In this statement, Martin states that he supports the belief in God, because it simply is “the greatest thing in the world.” This is most likely because believing in God allows you to trust, love, and speak to someone whom is always there. He travelled to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. where he gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. He travelled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he delivered his “Paul’s Letter to American Christians” to the Commission on Ecumencial Missions and Relations. He also spoke at a high school in Philledelphia which goes by the name of Barratt Junior High School, for this speech was directed toward the teenage crowd.
