Martin Luther King Jr's Accomplishments

“I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.” is what Martin Luther King Jr. started his “I Have A Dream” speech with (Gates 1). Several decades later and this speech has become the speech that every individual is taught regarding civil rights and freedom. This speech was one of the many speeches that Martin Luther King Jr. presented to the world full of dreamers. Martin Luther King was known for being a civil rights activists and a minister, among other things. King was the son of Micheal Luther King Sr. and Alberta King and he was born on January 15, 1929 in a home in Atlanta, Georgia (CNN.com). Throughout his teenage life, he had many small accomplishments;

King attending the Morehouse college in Atlanta, Georgia, is very revolution because it becomes a step to success for his whole movement. As many know, during the 1900’s civil rights for African Americans was a very touchy subject to talk about because black rights in general was not an idea many had already established. Going to college gave Africans Americans an idea for becoming something of themselves. One of the most impacted moments of King’s life was when the Atlanta Constitution published King’s letter on August 6, 1946. According to The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute, publishing his letter was very important because the Atlanta Constitution said that African Americans “are entitled to the basic rights and opportunities of American citizens." (Kinginstitute.stanford.edu). King accomplished several things throughout his life including graduating from Crozer and studying systematic theology in Boston University. All these events impacted the Martin Luther King Jr. in making him the person who fought for African American life’s and human rights, in general.
