1. The Ninety-five Thesis is a list of things that Martin Luther made to complain about the Roman Catholic Church. Martin Luther was a german priest who lived during the Protestant Reformation era. During that time all power was held by the Roman Catholic Church who were corrupt and would sell “indulgences”. On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther responded to the corrupt practice to selling indulgences by posting a copy of The Ninety-five Thesis to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church.
This made Luther create a document called the the 95 Theses. The 95 Theses exposed the church in 95 different ways. Luther took this document very seriously. He even nailed the document to the door of the church so everyone could see.
Martin Luther was a Catholic monk at the University of Wittenberg in Germany. Luther was unhappy with the practice of selling indulgences (a pardon releasing a sinner from performing a penalty in exchange for money), so, on October 31, 1517, he nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. These Theses were intended to encourage discussion about indulgences, but, with the help of the printing press, Luther’s 95 Theses gave rise to the Protestant Reformation (Document B).
Martin Luther then wrote the “95 Theses”, or “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences”. This list was nailed on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, initiating the Protestant Reformation. However, Luther was not the only reformer. John Calvin agreed with Martin Luther, but believed that the church should be simple, removed of all icons, and also a stricter lifestyle.
Theses, posted in 1517, criticized the sale of indulgences and called for a debate on issues of faith and authority within the Church. He emphasized the doctrine of justification by faith, rejecting the Catholic Church's teaching on the necessity of good works for salvation. On Tuesday 03/15/2016 1752 hours I went to Shirley Luther's residence on Patton Road (Apaloosa Acres) to talk with Shirley Luther, in reference to this case. I told Luther I was Detective Wondra with the Barton County Sheriff Office and asked if she remembered me from other cases that I have been to her house on, Luther did not understand me. Luther believed the church was corrupt. He challenged the church by producing the 95th
"95 Theses," a paper which spoke against the pope using Indulgences for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. His paper spoke of how the Bible should be the main guide for Christians and that faith rather than good deeds was the way to Heaven. He nailed the paper to the door of the Church, making the topic up for debate. Within years Luther had gathered enough followers to begin their own churches in Germany.

He does this because by the 1520’s, which is when this source was written, the Nighty- Five Theses were over three years old, it was time to build a core statement that his followers could get behind. In this source, Martin Luther says “for example, the commandment, you shall not covet, is a command which proves us all to be sinners, for no one can avoid coveting no matter how much he may struggle against it,” (Kishlansky, 277). Martin Luther wants to destroy the notion that the only way to be holy is by following Gods laws perfectly. Instead you must have faith that God will give you the strength to do good deeds and in return you will live a good life.

Martin Luther was said to begin the Protestant Reformation after he wrote his “95 Theses.” This book explained Martin’s beliefs that the Bible is the center of religious authority, and that humans can achieve Heaven if through their faith, disregarding the good or bad deeds they have done in the past. The church on the other had, was getting too involved in politics and losing its focus on religion and faith. The combination of political manipulations and the rising of church power and wealth lead to a drastic downfall in the church. This lead to the vulnerability of church leaders and caused them to make poor decisions.
The church promised eternal salvation to everyone who lived accordingly(Overfield). In the 1500s the Roman Catholic Church was very powerful in Western Europe. But other political forces including Italy, England France and more had increased in the previous century and many were anxious to take the opportunity offered by the Reformation to weaken the power of the papacy and increase their own power in relation to the Church in Rome and other rulers. There was also a great deal of corruption of the church thanks the the pope and his abandonment of the people. The corruption of the Church was well known, and several attempts had been made to reform the Church but none of these efforts successfully challenged Church practice until Martin Luther 's actions in the early 1500s.
The ninety five theses were written by Martin Luther. He became a monk because lightening struck a tree and knocked him face down and he said that God had spared him. He wrote the ninety five theses because he thought there were a lot of things wrong with the Catholic Church. He thought that the pope had to much power. The ninety five theses was a list of things that he thought were wrong with the church.
