Mary Kenner seemed like the right fit for my essay, because her life was fascinating and inspiring. Mary Kenner held records, helped others, and proved herself to the world. Not only was she one of the five black women inventors I could find, she had the most patent awards. She had her family support her through her entire career. But She also had major lows while starting her life. Living your dream life as a black woman is struggle to make it. You have barely any support, and you continue to have your thoughts shut down just because they think your stupid.But through the hard times in her life she still had her family’s support. Everything about her life really showed what the struggle is to become an inventor.

Mary Kenner was borned into a family of inventors. Her father invited a clothes presser that could fit in a suitcase. Her Grandfather invented a light signal for trains. Her sister also was an inventor, she created products that were similar to Mary’s products. Her sister later started her own business of board games. Her family was extremely proud of both girls, even after the hard times the family supported both of them to their success. Both Mary and her sister had the natural talent of creating new products. But Mary’s sister always loved to invent new things, but Mary would try new things. At the age of six she fell in love with inventing and started to join her sister in creating new things. Later when her family moved to Washington, she would love to walk down the trade center of patent awards. She has become an inspiration to young girls all around the world. Young girls around the world try to look up at her success, as a guide to get there. It had tooken her thirty years to get the patent for the sanitary because of the money problems, but she was also a black woman. Another important factor was when I was searching for an inventor to write about she was one out of five black women inventors I could find. She holds a record of most patent awards going to black women, which is really important to our next generation coming up. She has proven that no matter your looks, or other peoples opinion you can do anything you want. Women around believe that they can do what she did, if they kept believing they could.
