Prudence from “The Witch of Blackbird Pond” By:Christian Lopez Pr:1/2 One of the character in the novel “The Witch of Blackbird Pond”, written by Elizabeth George Speare. The character is a little girl named Prudence. This little girl wants to learn how to read & write, but Prudence’s mother calls her stupid & says she's too stupid to learn & doesn't let her go to school.
This novel is based on loyalty and how to stick to people you care about the most. In the novel, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, it incorporates how the author, Elizabeth George Speare, shows Kit’s loyalty throughout the book. The Witch of Blackbird Pond is a historical novel where it shows Katherine Tyler, a teenage girl, going through Puritan life and having to give loyalty to other people. Based off of, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Kit is most loyal to herself, the Wood family, and Hannah Tupper throughout the novel.
This quote is important to the story because it shows that at the beginning of the book, Matilda was not even allowed to go shopping for the coffeehouse, much less run it. She wasn’t nearly as respected as she became. My second quote was from the end of the book, when Matilda was running the coffeehouse. The quote is thought by her, here it is, “Free samples were proving to be a clever way to get customers to eat more.” (228) Once she started running the coffeehouse, Mattie learned all of the tips and tricks to getting more money.
To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a metaphor that means “to hurt someone who has done no wrong.” In the book there are lots of characters who represent a mockingbird, the one who symbolised the mockingbird the most was Tom Robinson. A mockingbird is a harmless, innocent person. Their purpose is to sing their hearts out for our own enjoyment. Meaning the mockingbird only does good for others.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale commits a mortal sin by having an affair with a married woman, Hester Prynne. As a man of the cloth in Puritan society, Dimmesdale is expected to be the embodiment of the town’s values. He becomes captive to a self-imposed guilt that manifests from affair and his fear that he won’t meet the town’s high expectations of him. In an attempt to mitigate this guilt, Dimmesdale acts “piously” and accepts Chillingworth’s torture, causing him to suffer privately, unlike Hester who repented in the eyes of the townspeople. When Dimmesdale finally reveals his sin to the townspeople, he is able to free himself from his guilt.
Having Flaws doesn’t mean they are Flawed Everyone wants to fit in. People go to great lengths just to fit in. By changing the way they dress, act, look, pushing their true self aside, and by pretending to be who they think they should be instead of who they are. For most of her life, this hasn’t been a problem for Dahlia.
At this point of E.L. Doctorow’s short story, “Child, Dead, in the Rose Garden,” Chrissie Stevens is in a sanitarium talking to Agent Molloy. When Chrissie says this quote, she is referring to the higher-ups of Utilicon Corporation, who happens to be her father. She means to say that there are these people, like her father, who have all the power, and will always win in the battle of keeping their business alive. Chrissie says that these gentlemen are the ones responsible for the death of Roberto Guzman, but not directly. Directly after this quote, Chrissie acknowledges how “they didn’t give [Roberto] the asthma he was born with,” but wants the “gentlemen who run things” to feel a bit of shame for indirectly contributing to the death of Roberto.
In The Lorax, Dr. Seuss’s character, Lorax quotes “unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” Dr. Seuss is correct with this quote, because if someone wants a problem to get fixed, they have to care to do it themselves. Only the person who will fix it is the person who cared to. The quote by Dr. Seuss is applicable to the common problems of everyday life or even great changes for society in a way that people want to improve things.
She repeatedly complains about her mother commanding her to work hard. She mentions, “I had not cleared the wax from my ears all summer, hoping it would soften [mother’s] voice” (6). Matilda is complaining about her mother’s orders, but does not consider how fortunate she really is. Her mother only wants the best for Mattie’s future and deeply loves her. Matilda does not realize that she should be grateful for a living mother who although may seem harsh on the outside, is loving on the inside.
In the Harry Potter series every character seems like he/she is either good or evil like: Professor Albus Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix are the good guys, and that Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters are the bad guys. There are some characters who are controversial like Severus Snape, who you hate throughout 6 books and most of the 7th book until you find out about his past. Harry Potter, first encounter with Severus Snape is in Potion Class and with all the snide comments towards Harry Potter, it looks like Severus Snape does not like. It very difficult to like Snape, he is cruel to all who are not from Slytherin like Neville torturing him throughout his class. Later we learn that Snape know Harry Potter’s parents, he and Harry’s
Whenever Miss Honey is in the scene she is always sweet and kind to everyone except Ms Trunchbull at times, she definitely cares for her students, she’s cheerful, encouraging, she definitely cares for her students, she’s cheerful, encouraging, she actually tries to give her students a good education, she uses manners, speaks kindly, she uses positive phrases and is quite obviously terrified of Ms Trunchbull. Miss honey has this kind and nice personality so she can be the nice person in the movie and also the mother feature to Matilda. Having all those features is very important to make the film work. In conclusion, her nice and kind personality makes it quite obvious how benevolent she actually is.
He is so overcome with passion and an uncontrollable desire of extreme possession that he trespasses the limits of life, death and religion. He wants to be with Catherine in any possible way and he embraces her corpse. Nelly has been raised as a good Christian and she listens to Heathcliff deeply surprised and ashamed for what he has done: “You were very wicked, Mr Heathcliff!' I exclaimed; 'were you not ashamed to disturb the dead?” (264) Heathcliff does not obey any rule or moral value accepted by society and follows his own instincts.
After Matilda retaliates against her parents, her dad finally allows her to go to the rundown Crunchem Elementary School where the principal’s name is Agatha Trunchbull. Miss Trunchbull enjoys giving the elementary children violent and harsh punishments for the fun of it.
