America likes to be fed information and likes to hear and feel the passion in others rather than creating less public and unified little passions in themselves. Citizens like to hear their leaders interpretations and feel a sense of grouping from that, therefore most people will not have read the way Obama’s eulogy was written and analyzed it, but watched him read it and felt the rigor in his voice and therefore found a better sense of understanding. Things tend to make more sense to people when conveyed by someone they look to for guidance rather than when broken down themselves.
Tom Brady is the greatest football player to ever play the game. This might sound like an opinion, but there are so many facts following from here that it’s basically a true statement that Tom Brady is the G.O.A.T. If you don’t know what G.O.A.T means, well it means that he is just the Greatest Of All Time. It takes a lot to say he is because there are so many other incredible players that have played the sport of football, but none of them are at Tom Brady’s level. He might not be the most jacked guy, but he doesn’t need to be, he is a true leader and mentally a great athlete.
In his commencement speech at Kenyon College in 2005, David Foster Wallace was tasked with the responsibility of imparting some wisdom onto the graduating class. Wallace’s message to a room of full soon-to-be college graduates at the precipice of the of their impending true adulthood, he offers them a message that cuts through the mess and concisely delivers a message that many would ironically overlook, which is for the students to realize that at times, imperative life lessons are not only the ones that they cannot conceive or believe, but the ones that are obvious but hard to acknowledge let alone discuss. The Unusual Message Reading the commencement speech “This is Water”, written and delivered by David Foster Wallace to students and their families at Kenyon College was nothing like what I was expecting it to be. I can imagine the listeners that were present were just as shocked as I was when they finally grasped the message he was presenting to them that day. Normally when someone delivers a commencement speech to students graduating, it's more along the lines of “be all that you can be” or “You can do it” with emphasis on the word “you.” No one really tells you to think of others first at that point in your lives. However, Wallace did just that.
Most of the time he creates pathos by evoking feelings of pride, rage, and anger. Powerful language and vocabulary is used to bring out an emotional outcry and agreement from his audience. The pathos is so well done that even one who listens to the speech decades later can still feel the power in Malcolm’s words. He demonstrates pathos in this quote: “ They don't have second-class citizenship in any other government on this Earth. They just have slaves and people who are free!
In his 1986 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Elie Wiesel strives to inform his audience of the unbelievable atrocities of the Holocaust in order to prevent them from ever again responding to inhumanity and injustice with silence and neutrality. The structure or organization of Wiesel’s speech, his skillful use of the rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos, combined with powerful rhetorical devices leads his audience to understand that they must never choose silence when they witness injustice. To do so supports the oppressors. Wiesel’s speech is tightly organized and moves the ideas forward effectively. Wiesel begins with humility, stating that he does not have the right to speak for the dead, introducing the framework of his words.
Due to the occupation that Mr. Hanks holds, there is often a perceived disconnect between the average person and himself, which can then make delivering an important message all the more difficult as there is no emotional connection between him and the audience. In 1986 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Elie Wiesel, makes two strong statements in his acceptance speech. Wiesel was 15 years old when he entered the camp in Auschuitz. His mom and little sister got killed as soon as they got to the gates. His father went into the gates with him the first time. He moved in January 1945 to Buchenwald in a cattle car.

Being turned down by multiple record companies was very hard on Strait. He kept working though, and it paid off.
To dream is to desire an achievement which seems unobtainable. Most everyone has trouble convincing themselves that their dreams are within reach. Jim Carrey once said, “So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.” This is a result of allowing dreams to remain dreams and, instead, opting to take a more reliable path. In doing so, a sense of emptiness that never completely dies out is often developed.
This speech was made for the class of 2014. By that year, Ed Helms was well known for his work on The Daily Show, The Office and The Hangover (trilogy) films. His major success it was The Hangover but in his speech he used a lot of examples of one of his character in The Office because it was someone related to Cornell University. He also was awareness that it was a graduation with a lot of young people and because he is a comedian he did a lot of jokes to try to engaged the audience with the ideas that he wanted to share with them. And finally, in his speech, he also applied pathos which is the emotional quality of the speech or text that makes it persuasive to the audience.
Considering that he speaks to large groups of students every day, he managed to keep his voice animated, and even though he stumbled over his words a little, he overall was very composed and kept the audience engaged. For the most part his physical delivery was minuscule because he was behind a podium. But he would use hand gestures at certain points to further express his point. The overall impression I conveyed from David McCullough is confidence, and because of title, as well as his confidence, he seemed very credible. And because of his confidence and credibility, the audience was very engaged and responsive.
McCullough was keeping the audience attention by making a joke by tying it back into the graduation speech. He made sure he wasn't saying meaningless jokes just to make the crowd laugh. McCullough used some persuasive strategies within his speech. For example he used a lot of pathos. He was using a lot of emotional appeal within his speech to get the audience more involved.
In the speech “Steve Jobs Commencement Address to Stanford University, Class of 2005” , Apple CEO Steve Jobs provides his audience with personal experiences and the rough periods he went through in his early years before founding apple that helped him succeed. With the use of his stories Jobs creates a character that prevails through obstacles and manages to achieve his goals, which inspires his audience to look up to him and show that failure is sometimes necessary to succeed. At the beginning of his speech, Steve Jobs begins describing his life with a series of stories that helped him reach his success, this helps Jobs create ethos because his audience will understand the hardships he went through to be where he is today, instead of just thinking of Jobs as the founder of Apple and not really knowing about the struggles he had to go through.
