In Maus and Barefoot Gen, guilt, power, and memories were involved.Maus is a graphic novel
written by Art Spiegelman. Maus is considered a representative work in second-generation
holocaust literature. In Maus, Art interview his father about his life during world war ll. In the
book Jews were represented as mice, American as dogs and other Germans and poles as cats and
pigs.The major theme of the novel is guilt. Art felt guilty about refusing to help his father with
the work a few times and later on, he tells his wife that he feels very guilty about it. Vladek
wants Art to keep coming around his house more often so he let him write a book about his

On August 6, 1945 United States Air Force dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tens thousands of people died in the explosion. Three days later,
another bomb was dropped killing 40,00 people.Later on, many more died from radiation
exposure. Japan agreed to surrender on August 14, 1945.In the movie Gen felt guilty for not
being about to save his family from the atomic bomb. His mother Kimie felt guilty for not dying
with the family so they could all be together. Both Kimie and Gen felt guilty for not being able to
give milk to the new born baby Tomoko. The movie Barefoot Gen, America gained over Japan in
July, 1945. At this time Franklin D. Roosevelt were president.In Barefoot Gen, Gen memories
about seeing his family died in his face and not being able to do nothing about it, that's a memory
he will never forget. Even trying to get milk to save his sister life but he end up being too late
and watching another one of his family die again and not doing anything about it. Barefoot Gen
