Misty May-Treanor, who was born on July 30, 1977, started playing volleyball at an extremely young age; in fact, she competed with her dad at her first beach volleyball tournament when she was eight years old (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2015). Growing up in Los Angeles on Santa Monica Beach, Misty had very athletic parents, who helped her to become one of the greatest volleyball players in history (Achilles, 2015). Misty earned her spot as the starting setter during her freshman year and later became captain (Achilles, 2015).
