Reading this book only greatened my respect for women. I can never truly show how great this short story represents women but this is how the book helped me recognize the value of women in the world. Geeta Kothari portrayed Maya as

And, women were lucky to get jobs in the defense industry only after men were “dried up.” 357 People of color were still being denied and/or discriminated against even after President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802.

These quoted words came from a strong, wise minded, African American woman whose legacy still lives on. In this essay you will understand a lot about Maya Angelou's early life on how she became famous, her careers, how many awards she has received, and also how her legacy continues to have an impact on people. When thinking of a historical figure, many imagine a president, king, or general that lead a country to greatness, but never realized some could be the ones who influence the minds of society. Although not thought of as anything, writers and poets hold the key to shaping the society’s mindset without even knowing it. Being a civil rights activist, social activist, and role model for women makes Maya Angelou a historical figure who has made a huge impact in American society and in American history. Born poor and black, she was a childhood victim of rape, shamed into silence. She was a young single mother who had to work at strip clubs for a living.
Tragic Hero in History “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people”,Maya Angelou. Two tragic heroes in history who fought to make the world a better place are Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. With passion and determination they enhanced the life of many people. Tragically there efforts were halted when their lives were cut short.
In Maya’s life she wrote seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and many books of poetry. The storyteller style writing paired with description and emotion, created an something right here about her books and shit. Making history isn’t an easy thing to do, but Maya Angelou, an acclaimed poet, faced the odds and led a truly impactful life. Throughout her life, Angelou also endeavored in civil rights and found success in writing memoirs. Her ability to write beautiful poetry and relate to readers with her poignant stories allowed her to have a career filled with achievements. She never had anything handed to her on a silver platter, which makes her successes even more noteworthy. Her hard work and dedication to her art made her a perfect role model for other aspiring dreamers.

As time goes on people you grow so fond of and look up to eventually pass away. Maya Angelou was as an amazing writer and influential civil rights activist in the 60’s before her death last year in 2014. However, she was so much more than just a writer to not only myself but to so many others around the world who she inspired with her controversial poetry, mesmerizing autobiographies, and impeccable charm. This is why if I could meet any person in the world and hold a 30-minute conversation with them, it would be with her. One of her most famous quotes is “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.
In 1995, Angelou published “Phenomenal Woman” to inspire women and celebrate all the obstacles she overcame in her life. Phenomenal Woman tells the story of a confident woman who rises above societies standards of beauty, but still has everyone spell bounded by her. The poem is draws our attention to the inner power and confidence of a woman. This confidence radiates through her hips, waist, and breasts even though they are the exact opposite of the “Barbie doll” figure that everyone thirsts after.
Who is Maya Angelou? Maya Angelou was primarily a very versatile and talented person. This woman of African American origin wrote and published seven autobiographies that were very popular and highly-evaluated in the US. However, she is well-known not only for being an author but also for being an actress, poet, dancer, and screenwriter. And of course we must not forget activism in the field of civil rights conducted by Maya.
“The New House” Everyone has a different past, unique to them and often unknown by others. Whether positive or negative, every person has their own individual experiences throughout life that shape them into who they are. No matter how hard someone may try, one can never erase the past. In Maya Angelou’s poem, “The New House”, she explores her own harsh past, and also shows how past experiences can effect people.
This poem tackles the idea of equal rights and respect of those different than one. A theme in this poem is the ability to overcome in confidence. Maya Angelou, a confident African American, uses poetry to overcome oppression that she faces. She starts the poem saying, “you may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lies” (Angelou). This implies that Angelou has a name worth writing down in history, she has a well known place in history.
She has written so many important and meaningful poems. My favorite poem is actually one that my dance team is doing a piece to. The poem is called “Still I Rise” and it has different meanings to everyone. In Maya’s book, Letter to My Daughter, she states that everyone should do at least one this that has a positive impact in society. “Be certain that you do not die without doing something wonderful for humanity.”
