Cyrus Hall Mcormick changed the grain harvesting world when he perfected his invention of the reaping machine. Cyrus Mcormick invented the mechanical reaper in 1831 but continued to perfect it up until 1834 when he got a paten on the machine. The first mechanical reaper was pulled by horses so his invention was a huge step forward. Mcormick’s reaper allowed farmers to harvest up to 10 acres a day, which is a huge upgrade compared to before when farmers could only harvest only two-three acres a day.
Over a thousand years ago in the Mesoamerica region the culture that we know as Maya thrived. They had an amazement and intrigued fascination over the technical mastery of their intellectual studies. The Mayan’s history is rich with remarkable human achievements, as well as stories. Some of their most recognizable masterpieces are the Mayan trade network, building Cities, the Mayan number system, and the Mayan calendar.
Located in Central America along the Yucatan Peninsula which included Mexico,Guatemala and Honduras, the classical era was the Mayan civilization. Who lived in isolation from most of the rest of the world and lived in a non-unified government in multiple city states. They were very religious and did many rituals to please their gods. For example, the Religious and Political leaders would pierce themselves with sharp objects to bleed and feed their blood to the Gods. But most importantly, around 900 BCE the civilization decided to leave their successful land to settle in the higher Central American lands.
Everything was perfectly planned out. As the calendar says, they have to sacrifice one of their own to please the Gods. The Mayan people would get together as a whole to practice their religious ceremony at the temple. The Mayan and Aztec civilizations are two ancient civilizations that were located near Central and South America. The Mayan civilization was more remarkable than the Aztecs because of their advanced knowledge.
From the calendars we still use today, to the way we grow crops with farming, ancient civilizations such as the Mayas, the Aztecs, and the Incas influenced and created the way we contribute our skills towards the public. These people’s expertise proves just how they improved the world. The civilizations were advanced for their time based on their early society, their accomplishments, and the remains that are still remembered, as well as viewed to this day. One of the ways that the Mayas, the Aztecs, and the Incas were successful was through their people’s actions in a community.

In the Western Hemisphere, no early civilization was more remarkable than the Maya. The Maya are the best-known classical civilizations of Mesoamerica, originating in the state in southeastern Mexico, Yucatan at around 2000 B.C. They rose to importance around A.D. 250 in present-day southern Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and northern Belize. The Maya civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization developed by the Maya peoples. As being the most remarkable civilization in the Western Hemisphere, the Maya produced an extensive range of structures, and have left a great architectural legacy that places the Maya civilization as one of the great preindustrial civilizations of the world.
The Maya, Aztec, and Inca were all huge groups of peoples who lived until the 1500s at one point or another. The Maya lasted the longest out of all the groups, spanning from 400 BC to 1517 AD. The Maya were also the first of these groups to perish. The Inca lasted the second longest, starting in 1200 AD and living until 1572, when they lived solely in Machu Picchu. The Aztec lasted the shortest amount of time, only one year over three centuries and two decades.
In this class, I have learned a great deal about a wide variety of civilizations. These civilizations have ranged from the oldest known to the Gothic era and late Middle Ages. However, there were 5 things in particular that proved very interesting. The first three would be the Inca, the Aztec, and the Mayan civilizations. These 3 cultures had very interesting beliefs and some incredible architecture.
In the early history of America, stories of how man came to be, among other tales, were orally told by the natives whom lived there. In The Creation Story of the Maya the author tells how man became corrupted and disrespectful an was turned into monkeys. The author uses an interesting form of allusion to prove how disrespectful man became, through using Darwinism. “ Their faces are crushed, and they are turned into monkeys.
Modern Guatemala culture is very much influenced by their history. Guatemala used to be the core of the Mayan civilization, and as such Guatemala has a very unique culture that is hard to find in other countries. What ended up happening, though, is the Spanish conquered most of the country during the sixteenth century and attempted to make it part of their colony. While their modern history is plagued by uprisings and civil wars, there are still many remnants of the ancient Mayan culture, including the major Mayan city of Tikal. Tikal is the largest excavated site in America and is also one of the largest excavated sites in the world!
Guatemala is one of the countries in Central America that has spectacular Mayan ruins and a diverse Mayan heritage communities. Local Mayan heritage has been preserving the culture of their ancestors after many years. Local indigenous community near Tecpan have been coming to a nearby Mayan site known as Iximche’ to perform spiritual rituals. Despite many racism and civil war that Guatemala; the indigenous community have been embracing their culture heritage. Iximche’ is a Post-Classic Maya site that has been really important to the local indigenous community because it allows them to continue preserving the Maya culture alive for future generations by enabling present community to open a link channel to perform ceremonies as their ancestors
