Media Violence is a topic that has been researched for many years. Researchers have found that media violence has profound effects on the behavior of adolescents with ADHD-related behaviors. Researchers believe that parents play a vital role in what their children are exposed to. This paper will discuss research done on the relationship between media violence and adolescents. This paper will also discuss the research done by Nikkelen, Vossen, Piotrowski, and Vallenburg. They based their results on surveys taken by over one thousand adolescents between the ages of 10 and 14.

One family factor that has been very influential is parental mediation. Parental mediation is a strategy used by parents to guide their child's exposure to the media. Parental mediation has been put into two categories: restrictive mediation (i.e., rule-setting to restrict media use) and active mediation (i.e., talking with children about media content, Nathanson, 1999; Valkenburg et al., 1999).
