March 9, 2017 Aspen Wayment History of Physician Assistants There were many events leading up to the origination of the physician assistant. The military necessity in times of war was one of these events that induced the use of “non-physicians” and helped pave a pathway for physician assistants. In 1940 a highly respected physician trained his own “doctor’s assistant” to tend his patients while he was away receiving further medical education. This event was a major success and a brief example of what was to come a mere fifteen years later.
Through this involvement, I became highly interested in the recruitment process. For me recruitment was always a lot like doing ethnographic research which is the reason why I enjoyed both being a DePaul Ambassador and partaking in sorority recruitment. What I also enjoy about recruitment is the need for the attention to detail. Through my involvement in college I learned that I was able to successfully working in groups, as well as, on my own and honed in on my leadership abilities, as well as, gaining excellent conflict resolution skills and communication skills.
Medical Office Assistant has many responsibilities. Medical Office Assistant is the heartbeat of a medical office or hospital. Being a Medical Office Assistant involves assisting the administrative by handling clerical and clinical duties. Some duties are filing medical records and maintaining the front office such as keeping everything organized and answering the phone. Handling final payments, medical records, scheduling, final management are other duties of a Medical Office Assistant.
Why you want to be a Medical Assistant? The three main reasons why I want to be a Medical Assistant, is to help my community, help my family in a financial way, and to learn something I’ve never learned it before. Throughout my journey, I had a goal to become an MA in the future. I didn’t even know that being an MA was an easy thing to do.

The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.
