Living in a first world country we are blessed with medical resources at hand. If a situation happens you can call a three digit number and be attended to in a matter of minutes. In our country we have over thirty different doctors specified what they studied. What that means is that no matter what the medical problem is you can find a professional to help you out. When a patients problem has been attended it is very common for them to receive a prescription for the illness. A large supply of common medicine can be obtained by going to your local Wal-Mart and you do not need a prescription. What if I told you that pharmacies have a hidden agenda and do not want marijuana legal for their own profit? They state that they do not support it because there is not enough evidence showing it can be used as a medicine. Also they believe since it is harmful to your lungs then it shouldn’t be used. Although when you go below the surface and research; it can be seen as pharmacies scared of medical marijuana. The pharmaceutical industry is worth $300 billion a year and it’s suspected to rise to $400 billion within three years. Marijuana being able to replace opiates is only the beginning to where marijuana can cost pharmacies money. In 2012, the cancer treatment industry was worth $124.6 billion dollars and pharmacies get a large amount of that income (Mack, chap. 6). To help cancer patients get through chemotherapy many different medications are needed. These medications include pain medication, anti-nausea, and depression medications. Cancer patients get all of these medications from pharmacies and marijuana is already proven to replace pain medications. However, according to United Patients Group marijuana can also help relieve nausea from chemotherapy (Mack, chap. 6). In this quote from their study they state their results, “There is strong evidence that cannabinoids naturally produced in the body play a role in suppressing nausea in circumstances. Inhaled medical marijuana achieves superior results in reducing nausea and vomiting over synthetic alternatives.” (Mack, chap. 6).
