Writing Project #3: Proposition 64 In the light of the intense presidential elections on November 8th, 2016, a list of propositions were set in place to be voted on to determine the future of Californians across the state. These propositions covered many areas from innocent school funding to strangely, adult film industry rules. However, there was one proposition that has been struck as intriguing for the many generations who have argued its morality for decades. Proposition 64 was on the ballot and many people gathered in lines to vote yes or no. Proposition 64 stated: “[l]egalizes marijuana under state law, for use by adults 21 or older. Imposes state taxes on sales and cultivation. Provides for industry licensing and establishes standards for marijuana products. Allows local regulation and taxation. Fiscal Impact: Additional tax revenues ranging from high hundreds of millions of dollars to over $1 billion annually, mostly dedicated to specific purposes.
