I have a strong feeling on Colorado amendment 64 [6] , in that I believe recreational marijuana hurts the local culture and diminishes social principles. I have and decent understanding of how it works [5]. The only reason I see it has any grounds in legislature is so the state doesn’t have to house prisoners charged with possession. I am not aware of a way to reverse the effects amendment 64 has had on residents in Colorado.

Before the bill was an amendment, kids in my middle school were already experimenting with the drug. Sadly the majority of people start smoking not to alleviate chronic pain caused by disease, but to fit in with the “cool kids”. This quickly turned into what everybody refused to acknowledged as an addiction. The fact is that Marijuana is a gateway drug, maybe not for it’s inherent qualities, but because of the crowd that develops around drug culture. After the amendment was passed, there was a noticeable growth in consumption of marijuana. People who were previously unwilling to break the law, no longer had that barrier, and because of the newly opened market, those under the age of twenty-one had increased access to the drug. There was also a steady growth of other substance abuse after that point. As for the promise of increased funding for public schools, teachers received no raise in the years following. Adding to this mockery of legislature, large construction projects are still being carried out by private companies. That is the way it has always been in Colorado.
