Most people were in favor on prohibition during the first few months, they were under the impression that only hard liquor would be banned like whisky, gin, and vodka. Most were not in favor of the ban against beer and wine. These feelings divided the states into two divisions, The Drys and The Wets. The Drys supported the laws against the recreational use of alcohol, and The Wets were against the law and believed you should be able to drink. Prohibition was the reason for crime levels to rise. This was because since they were illegal, it gave people a thrill to break the law and drink with their friends. These speakeasies, becoming so popular gave bootleggers the chance to make thousands of dollars off of prohibition. This brought a huge uprise to organized crime and gang violence. In the end, the fight for prohibition was never going to make it. People saw only what alcohol can do negatively to people back in the 1920s-1930s which caused people to view the drink negatively, and that's also what happened with Marijuana. People see marijuana negatively only because teenagers tend to abuse it for a fun Friday night or for the feeling. Marijuana has real positive results when use medically. The fight against prohibition just proved that we cannot limit what people can and cannot do to be under the influence when positive effects are involved. When people drink, it doesn't have to be because of alcoholism, and when people smoke, it doesn't have to be just to ¨get high¨. Marijuana also has many benefits we don't even know about yet, and if it gets legalized widespread across the United States imagine how much we will be able to discover about it and its uses just from human curiosity. Another benefit from the legalization of marijuana would be the money going towards the government, instead of having it be sold illegally like it is now. The tobacco market makes 15.5 million dollars for the government every year. With the legalization of marijuana, if we spread it on a basis like tobacco, could bring in the same, or an even larger revenue to the government.
