10. 1. Menopause is a universal female experience, which occurs at the time of cessation of ovarian function. It begins with the onset of menstrual irregularities and ends with the last menstrual period. The clinical diagnosis is confirmed, following stoppage of menstruation for twelve consecutive months without any other pathology. The menopause normally occurs between the age of 45 and 50 years, the average age being 47 years. Before 2-3 years of menopause, ovarian activity declines. Initially, ovulation fails, no corpus luteum forms and no progesterone is secreted by the ovary. Therefore, the premenopausal menstrual cycles are often anovulatory and irregular. The statement of the problem is “The effect of soy flour in the control of various parameters of metabolic syndrome among post-menopausal women”. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of soy flour in the control of biochemical, clinical parameters of metabolic syndrome among post-menopausal women. The objectives are (1) The effectiveness of soy flour on menopausal symptoms in post-menopausal women. (2) The effectiveness of soy flour on blood pressure and glycemic parameters in post-menopausal women. (3) The effectiveness of soy flour on body weight and lipid profile in post-menopausal women. The following are study hypothesis: (1) There will be a significant control on menopausal symptoms in post-menopausal women. (2) There will be a significant control on blood pressure and glycemic parameters in post-menopausal women. (3) There will be a significant control on body weight and lipid profile in post-menopausal women. The quantitative research approach with true experimental research design was adopted to evaluate the effect of soy flour in the control of various parameters of metabolic syndrome among post-menopausal women”.Simple random sampling technique was used for the study. In Andhra Pradesh, from Srikakulam district, Ecterla Mandal, Shermuhammad Puram panchayat was selected based on approachability, cooperation from authorities and facilities provided. Shermuhammad Puram panchayat consists of 4 villages. From 1 to 4 villages, for the control, study group I (25g soy flour), Study group II (45g soy flour), 3 villages were selected by lottery method. From each village, samples were recruited by using random number table. The tool used for the study was Section A: Demographic data consists of 16 items. It includes age, education, occupation, monthly family income, marital status, type of family, religion, the number of children, type of food, family history of the medical/surgical problem, previous hospitalization, health checkup, surgical history, years since menopause, type of menopause and source of health information. Section B: Modified Kupperman index devised by Kupperman and Blatt.
