In 1864 Congress approved the Northern Pacific Railway to be built. The NPR is the first transcontinental railroad in the northern part of the country. It is 8,316 miles long, beginning in Minnesota and ending in Washington state, with many branches going off the main line. When congress approved it they also supplied nearly 40million acres of land grants to build the railroad on. Construction didn 't go underway until 1870, and the rail road was finally christened to open on Sept. 8 1888.
In it, she explains how music selection plays a vital part in the strategic creation of trailers and movies; hence, marketers must consider the role and impact music will have on consumers. She particularly expresses how “film music can have a strong influence on viewer attitudes toward characters, especially when the images on the screen are open-ended or ambiguous” (Strobin 5). An example from the trailer that utilizes Strobin’s explanation, is when the music lyrics say “There is nowhere to run to baby” while the visuals of the trailer are police helicopters following three red cars (1:46). This alludes to the fact that the main character is being chased by the cops in a red car and leaves the viewer wondering if he will be able to escape. The music, specifically the lyrics, during that scene is one of the driving factors that keep the audience on the edge of their seats; moreover, interested in the film because it adds to the story alongside the visuals.
Despite the proliferation of horsecar transportation in the late nineteenth century, the Ocean Beach area remained disparate from the bulk of San Francisco residents. The recreational opportunities of Ocean Beach, Harbor View, and Sutro’s Cliff House attracted the need for a transportation solution. The Sutter Street Railroad was the first company to attempt steam dummy service to this section for San Francisco in 1877. The route connected horsecar service at Broadway and Polk streets to a steam dummy that took riders to Harbor View, but its location, remote from the many amusements of the beach, caused it to be unsuccessful.
The music helps portray the transition between a worried team full of buys to a confident team of
He explains that the goal of the project is to generate economic benefits ($31.5 billion) and to allow more freight trains to traverse the city smoothly, benefitting the nation due to Chicago’s position as the intermediary between railway transactions. The author discusses the importance operative infrastructure in keeping the city running. He references a splintering stretch of rail on the 75th street corridor, utilised by freight and commuter trains. Consequently, Sanburn emphasises the importance of verbal communication between the Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) and the ‘CSX’ railroad that crosses BRC’s lines to ensure that no clashes occur. Sanburn stresses that communication systems do not reduce traffic, as trains must obtain approval from the BRC prior to transit.
The major decline in railroad transportation during the 1950’s was primarily due to the vast construction of interstate highway by the government. The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 authorized the vast construction of 41,000 miles of roadway with a steep price of 25 billion dollars that would come from taxpayer money. With the increase in air and road travel, the need to travel by rail, in a less direct route, seemed unnecessary. This would ultimately leave railroad companies to believe traveling by rail was in a permanent decline. On February 18, 1947, the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) formally announced that they were operating at a loss.
He spent years to actually correct it and come up the exact musical sound that resembles that train sound. Bailey mentioned that how it took him seventeen years to master the sound of the train. “I worked on my train for years, getting that train down right. I caught that train down just like I wanted in a matter of time. I got the engine part.
SIOUX SMOKE SIGNAL This is Screaming Horse of the Sioux tribe writing for the Sioux Smoke Signal. Today we are talking about how the Transcontinental Railroad affected our Native American way of life. The Transcontinental Railroad has disturbed our way of life. The building of the Canadian Pacific Railway was a very significant event in the development of Canada. It was important for the development of the West, which there was no easy way to get to. It benefitted the Canadian economy, allowing it to flourish and grow into what it has become today. Lastly, it allowed for unification of Canada as one whole country.
This paragraph will talk about Challenges, Little known facts, and current uses. There are many challenges in maintaining the railway some are recessions, maintenance, and network performance and capabilities. In my opinion recessions are the biggest threat to the railways. What this means is that many people will lose their jobs, less businesses will use their railways, less goods will be needed to transport across Canada from coast to coast, and with less money and income they will be forced to spend less money on maintenance and the lines won't be as safe. Maintenance is a challenge as well.
Deicis Esquivel Flores Professor Jeffrey S. Markovitz English 102 05 April 2024 Foster care is a system that has been able to provide several benefits and contributions, and overall has met the needs of various children struggling with their biological families by placing them in temporary homes. However, there are still many areas in which this system can improve to better support young people aging out of the foster care system. At the time that a child is about to age out of the foster care system, this means they have reached the age limit and are no longer able to remain within the system as they approach adulthood. This can become worrisome for these youths knowing they will have to leave soon since they may not lack the support, knowledge,
The argument of Mayor Jones is flawed for many unwarranted assumptions. Primarily, the memorandum assumes that by building a subway system, the majority of motorists will start taking subways while travelling. The argument has also mentioned vague points regarding increase in worker productivity and flourishment of economy that needs further assessment. One of the major assumption of the argument is in assuming that motorists will start taking subways while going to work. Subway system will work as an alternative and would not be preferred by the entire working class.
In 1854, America began what is known as The Orphan Train Movement, which lasted approximately 75 years. The trains moved about 200,000 children from cities like New York and Boston to the American West to be adopted (Brown) . Many organizations opened their doors to these orphans who were mostly living on the streets. The Children’s Aid Society was a much needed organization that helped orphan train riders, but many other organizations competed with the Children’s Aid Society. Organizations started up for one intention- to make children safe.
My artwork is of the Transcontinental railroad. In approximately the middle of the train tracks, there is a sign that says Promontory Utah. This represents the connection of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads to form the transcontinental railroad. Also on the sign, there is an arrow that points to the left with the words Sacramento, California and an arrow pointing to the right with the words Omaha, Nebraska. These arrows represent the starting point of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.
The Effect of Trains on America During the 1800’s Trains originated in Britain, invented by a man named George Stephenson. Engines and tracks were originally purchased from England, up until the civil war. At first, there were skeptics about trains, people who worried about their businesses, and people who believed trains to be sacrilegious. Eventually, the economic advantages of trains silenced the critics, and entered America into a new state of development.
