On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown, an unarmed eighteen year old black male was shot and killed six times by Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darrin Wilson. A witness says Michael Brown was raising his hands to surrender when the officer shot him. Authorities say Michael Brown physically assaulted the officer by pushing him back into his car and tried to steal his gun. The Ferguson police cars were not armed with cameras, so they cannot tell whose side of the story is accurate. When the public found out that Michael Brown was unarmed and supposedly trying to surrender, it brought chaos to the St. Louis suburb where the shooting happened, causing protests, riots, and national attention. In order to get to the bottom of the case and to discover what really happened, Federal Civil Rights Investigators and the FBI were brought in, it is now in their hands. On August 11, what started out as a protest for the killing of Michael Brown turned into a violent riot where a convenient store was burned to the ground. On August 19th, Kajieme Powell was shot twelve times and killed. Kajieme Powell, a twenty-five year old black male was suspected of robbing a convenient store and of having a weapon, so the police officer shot. Luckily, a witness caught the whole thing on tape and the disturbing video is now on Youtube. This is the second incident in the past few weeks around the St. Louis surrounding area that a young black male was killed after being suspected of a minor crimes (jaywalking in Michael Brown’s case and shoplifting in Jajieme Powell’s case). Violent protests and national debates still continue, but FBI and investigators are working hard and inquiring to get to the bottom of
