The company I will be choosing is the Michigan State Police. I currently work for them and I’m assigned to the Iron Mountain Post in the Upper Peninsula. On October 31, 2011, I transferred to the Iron Mountain Post and started my Community Service Trooper role. My primary role is community engagement. “Michigan State Police (MSP) Community Service Troopers(CSTs) are assigned to regions across the state, focusing on community outreach and interaction to help strengthen communities. They serve residents in a range of ways, including mentoring youth, working with seniors, and educating residents on emerging crime trends. At the highlight of the program, a CST was at every post in the state. When Colonel Gasper took over the Michigan State Police, he left the decision to the post commander to determine if they wanted a CST. Several posts elected to end the program and put the trooper back on the road to resume traffic enforcement and answer 911 calls for service. Colonel Grady, newly appointed commander of the Michigan State Police, is a big supporter of community policing and recruiting. His vision is to take the CSTs out of the posts and assign them to our headquarters in Lansing, but we still would work in our current areas. This is developing as I’m writing this paper. My experience as the CST at the Iron Mountain Post has been amazing. I have had support and worked closely with every post commander at the Iron Mountain Post. We have collaborated with community groups, organizations, and other police agencies to make our post area a better place to live, work, and play.
