Middle School Students Using Social Media Analysis

According to a Pew Survey conducted in 2015, about 94% of teens go online using mobile devices daily. When mobile devices were produced in its earlier lifespan, the basics of the device were to call people; however, today, most mobile devices are considered “smartphones,” which means they have access to the internet and other services like social networking. The purpose of social networking sites or apps is to allow people to interact from around the world and share thoughts, photos, videos, music, and links. Some examples of different social networking platforms are Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Although a lot of people are using social networking, social networking sites are not good for middle school because it leads to lower grades, bad effects, and promotes cheating.
The first reason for why social media is not good for middle school students is it leads to lower grades. According to ProCon.org, heavy social media users get a GPA of 3.06 while non heavily social media users will on average get a GPA of 3.82. These low GPA are effect by homework and tests. 31% of teens say that using social media during homework leads to lower quality of work which means that students aren't putting as much effort as doing it independently. According to Science Daily, it leads to psychological disorders including antisocial behaviors, mania, and aggressive tendencies. All of these are negative effects and will lead to isolation and a bad relationship. According to ProCon.org, 31% of teens who use social media have fought with a friend because of something that happened online. This will lead to a bad relationship and since no one will play with the person with negative effects, the person with the negative effects will spend more time online. In the future, it may decrease success in relationships later in
